The cottage has a fantastic network of trails and levadas. There are 2 (Madalena do Mar and Achada) of the more than 200 trails crisscrossing the island’s basalt rock masses, taking hikers into a rare natural world. Along these irrigation channels you will come across species of fauna and flora found hardly anywhere else in the world, in Madeira’s traditional Laurissilva Forest, which has been declared a World Natural Heritage Site.

Golf
Palheiro Golf: 35 min. drive. Situated close to gardens that are famous for their exuberant vegetation, this course offers fabulous views over Funchal Bay, the sea, and the far-off Ilhas Desertas.
Santo da Serra: 50 min. drive. The British colony, which settled on Madeira some centuries ago, has had a preponderant influence on the economy of this island. The famous Madeira wines carry the names of some distinguished families of English origin on their labels. The British also introduced golf into Madeira. In 1937 they built their first nine-hole course, now is a par 72 with a total length of about 6,000 metres. The course was built at an altitude of approximately 700 metres and has panoramic views of incomparable beauty over Machico, São Lourenço Cape and the Desert isles.
