From the south facing outside terrace under the grape-vines and jasmine you enter into the sitting room painted in vibrant primary colours with two leather sofas and typical rustic furniture and lots of cushions. It’s a cosy place to sit, read and generally relax . Or you might prefer to watch a selection of English and foreign DVDs from a comfortable corner sofa in the second sitting room – again with lots of cushions. The room is typically decorated with local Portuguese tiles and its main feature is the original working bread oven, now also an open fire with a safety fire guard. A pouffe cleverly unfolds into an extra bed if needed..You then wander into the original village shop at the front of the house now converted into the kitchen and dining room and still retaining the original mahogany counter and shop cupboards, all comprehensively stocked with stylish crockery. The kitchen is very well equipped with electric toaster, smoothie maker, fruit juice squeezer for oranges from the garden in season, and even a fruit juice steam-extractor for jams and juices. There is a gas cooker, microwave-oven and dishwasher, saucepans and many useful gadgets if you enjoy cooking. The dining area has a long refectory table (made by a local furniture maker using the original parquet floor from the sitting room) with 8 locally commissioned typical chairs from the Camacha wicker factory on the island. The adjoining utility room has a large refrigerator/freezer, washing machine, and tumble-dryer to dry out your clothes after returning from a “wet” levada walk..Is near the sea.
